Just As You Are… ?

I’m reading this article about body image and women.  Well worth the read and worth thinking about in your own life.  How did we start to feel like wherever you are, right now, is not exactly where you should be?  I struggle with it a lot, thinking that my belly should be flatter or my hips less hippy.

Along those lines, this picture by Jade Beall really made me think a little bit differently about my body.  You can find more of her work here: https://www.facebook.com/JadeBeallPhotography

Reiki – Like Lightening to Make You Relax

I just wrapped up my first experience with reiki and I am not sure how to write about what it felt like.  First, it was deeply relaxing and it allowed me to meditate in a way that was self-revealing.  For the first time trying something, I feel like I definitely learned what to expect for the next time and I discovered some lessons about myself.  Second, I was not expecting to hear the crackling of energy in the room or to feel some of the sensations I did.  It was a little unnerving, but in a secure way, like watching a thunderstorm from a distance while you’re really sleepy.  I do love a good thunderstorm, but if they make you anxious that may not be the best analogy.  Anyway, I am looking forward to my Second Encounter with Reiki and I promise to blog about it.  Now that I know what to expect, I’m wondering what unexpected things I might discover.

happinessThere are two types of people in the world: those who choose to be happy, and those who choose to be unhappy. Contrary to popular belief, happiness doesn’t come from fame, fortune, other people, or material possessions. Rather, it comes from within. The richest person in the world could be miserable while a person living in the slums of a third world country could be happy and content. I have spent plenty of time amongst both groups to have seen it first hand. Happy people are happy because they make themselves happy. They maintain a positive outlook on life and remain at peace with themselves.

The question is: how do they do that?

It’s quite simple. Happy people have good habits that enhance their lives. They do…

Yoga Believer

http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/20/its-not-too-late-to-become-a-yoga-believer/

When and how did you become a yoga believer?

I was a quick and easy convert.  I appreciate both the physical and spiritual side and desperately needed the sane quiet place that yoga provided.  I walked into my first class, a Baptiste Power Vinyasa, with no idea what I was getting into, but 90 minutes later, I left glowing and feeling powerful and strong, like I had accomplished something worthwhile.  It was an investment of time and effort that has paid off both physically and mentally and I deeply appreciate the opportunity to practice this discipline.
